Open position in our group!

For our project “AI-based Tools for Consistent Map Designs” we are looking for a prospective PhD student who is interested in exploring the issues related to the project. Prior experience with AI technology is not needed, but an interest in the topics touched upon by the project is an advantage:

  • Issues of map design, graphic design, UI/UX, map usability and design guidelines
  • Exploring and “hacking” the capabilities of commercial AI-based tools (ChatGPT, Dall-E, Copilot, Adobe Products)
  • Configuring, adapting and using AI-based technology hosted in-house by TU Wien for the purpose of the project
  • Exploring critical positions towards AI-based technology and developing them further in the context of the project’s application areas

You can find a description of the project here.

The position will start on December 1st, 2024 and is for now funded for 1 year for 20 hours/week (50% employment). An important part of this short project is to develop and submit a project proposal that upon success would fund the position longer-term.

A Master’s degree in Cartography, Geovisualization, Graphic Design, User Interface Design or related fields is required, as well as fluency in English.

The project is situated at the Research Unit Cartography at TU Wien, Vienna, Austria – partial remote work can be negotiated.
