Call for Maps: Einladung zur Einreichung von Beiträgen zur International Cartographic Exhibition

Vom 14.–18. Dezember 2021 findet in Florenz, Italien, die 30. International Cartographic Conference (ICC) statt. In diesem Rahmen wird auch wieder die International Cartographic Exhibition organisiert – eine Ausstellung für digitale und analoge Karten aus aller Welt.  Bis 26. Juli haben Sie die Möglichkeit, österreichische Beiträge für die Ausstellung zu nominieren! 

Warum teilnehmen?

  • Sichtbarkeit Ihres Produkts bei über 1.500 Kartographie- und GIS-ExpertInnen aus aller Welt bei der International Cartographic Conference (ICC 2021)
  • Listung im online verfügbaren Ausstellungskatalog
  • Chance, einen ICA Map Award zu gewinnen. ICA Map Awards eignen sich hervorragend als Marketinginstrument. Die ausgezeichneten Beiträge werden im Anschluss außerdem als Map of the Month auf der ICA-Website gefeatured und erreichen auf diese Weise eine hohe Sichtbarkeit.

EuroCarto 2020: Sept 21-25

The Research Division Cartography is proud to be participating in this year’s EuroCarto 2020, which is hosted as a virtual event:

  • Georg Gartner: Part of the organizational committee and chairing the sessions “COVID and Methodology”, “Innovations and Applications”, and “Design”
  • Silvia Klettner: Scientific talk on “More than identifiers: Map symbols and their connotative meaning” (Sept 21)
  • Florian Ledermann: Scientific talk on “Classifying Cartographic Projections Based on Dynamic Analysis of Program Code” (Sept 24)

All contributions can be found in the detailed conference program.

The conference is jointly carried out by the German Society of Cartography (DGfK), the Austrian Cartographic Commission in the Austrian Geographic Society (ÖKK), the Swiss Society of Cartography (SGK), the University of Vienna, and endorsed by the International Cartographic Association. Cartography M.Sc. Alumni Meeting 2019

From October 10-12, 2019, the first Cartography M.Sc. Alumni Meeting took place, hosted by TU Munich. The alumni of all former intakes, fresh graduates, current students, and consortium members of the four cooperating universities met for the first time to learn, reconnect, and network.

During the three-day event, the alumni from different intakes shared their career stories, gave professional advice, motivational mantras, and presented lessons learned after they left the Alma Mater.

The EURECA project closing event in Brussels

On last Thursday 12th the closing event of the EURECA/UGESCO projects was held at Cinematek, the Royal Belgian Film Archive in Brussels. EURECA is an international cooperation of the TU Wien, the Ghent University and several Belgian and Austrian archives focused on revealing inter-regional traces in Europe.

Results were presented by Steven Verstockt, Nico Van de Weghe, Kenzo Milleville, Dilawar Ali, Georg Gartner and Francisco Porras Bernárdez. We will extend further our excellent cooperation with our colleagues.

The research group’s contributions at ICC2019

This year’s 29th International Cartographic Conference (ICC) took place in Tokyo, Japan, with over 950 participants. The members of the Research Division Cartography and its affiliates also contributed their latest works by Scientific Presentations, Scientific Posters, Maps, and Atlases. With a Position Paper, the research group also participated in the pre-conference workshop in Beijing, China on “User Experience Design for Mobile Cartography: Setting the Agenda”. Österreichische Beiträge bei der International Cartographic Exhibition in Tokio

Vom 15.–20. Juli 2019 fand in Tokio die 29. International Cartographic Conference (ICC) statt. In diesem Rahmen wurde auch wieder die International Cartographic Exhibition organisiert – eine Ausstellung für digitale und analoge Karten aus aller Welt. Dabei waren auch 17 Beiträge aus Österreich vertreten. Besonders erfreulich: Das Projekt Politics of Remembrance (POREM) erhielt den ersten Preis in der Kategorie Digital Product – wir gratulieren ganz herzlich!

Die österreichischen Beiträge in Tokio

Basierend auf dem Call for Maps wurden 17 österreichische Beiträge nach Tokio gesandt, darunter 12 Papierkarten, 3 digitale Kartenprodukte, ein Atlas und ein Produkt für den Unterricht (Educational Products).

International Master of Cartography students at Otto Neurath exhibition

Together with our students of the International Master of Cartography, we visited the Otto Neurath exhibition “Sprechende Zeichen at the Wirtschaftsmuseum in Vienna. The exhibition is dedicated to Otto Neurath, founder of the Society and Economic Museum. Otto Neurath developed new graphics techniques during the First World War. He was a member of the philosophical Wiener Kreis and developed the Viennese method of image statistics to present statistics in an easily understandable, visual form.

Students from the Cartography Master meet students from Iowa State University

Thanks to Alenka Poplin and her students from Iowa State University for visiting our Research Division during spring break! Together with our students from the International Cartography Master program, they were introduced to the research field of emotion mapping and jointly conducted interviews in which they explored how Vienna is perceived by its inhabitants and where people find restorative places in the city.
